Sea Monsters and The Shadmoor Bog Dwellings

Here in lies the Sea, where Grotesque, belching Elephantine men chase waterlogged swells into greasy rocks, Beyond the soft mud cliffs lie the wet dwellings of Meaty trolls, boiling fish heads into soup and pounding tannic roots into caustic paste for stews. Late at night they gobble them in the smoky Gulag behind their homes. Moans of missing Notyets groan from somewhere below.

Noho stars treasure

This is the hostess stand at the Noho star in Noho, manhattan. Island of the odd. This treasure has been standing at the helm of this gem of a restaurant since the early 80s. From Cindi lauper to the J Giles band and every pair of capezios east of the mississippi this landmark has guided their way to Noho star. Here you'll find colorful scatterings of minced bell peppers and zig sagged squigglies on oversized plates, goopy quesadillas and giant Salads filled with corn and Chinese crackers, avocados on the side and Chinese food after 6, it's a oh ricky your so fine kinda place with a shoot that poison arrow through my heart sort of magic, tell them stevo sent you, the one guy over there in a mullet with peering over his sunglasses, giving you a wink. Gotta have some of that for dessert!

Here's a collection of plants growing in Montauk right now. Late summer planting leads to winter goodies and early spring bounty. Only for the experienced gardeners, no vegetarians please!

Chervil loves the cool air.

Artichoke plant - growing into a busty Cardoon soon. 2 year old plant.

We have 5 or 6 brusselsprouts growing - planted seed around Aug 5th or so.

Curly parsley - the dingy parsley, i still love him. Growing in an Echinacea stem forest. He likes the protection.

Leeks - strarted way back in spring - grow so slow and steady, i could leave these in till next spring through ice and snow, nothing kills a leek except vegetarians.

Kale - Tuscan Black - what a beefy beauty, grows in the snow like its a summers day. good with anchovys.

Raddichio beauty - planted seeds a few years ago, never took, now they pop up in october and try to bust a move before long deep cold sets in, they may need a hay blanket or glass house.

Celery chugging along all summer fall and now winter - it loves the cold and is getting greener and cruchier every day - cant wait for the root.

Mint hybrids, these mints mate with every mint like thing, peppermint, spearmint, doublemint. becoming a sort of ambiguous super peppery weird mint. Live and let live.

Oh behold the mighty cabbage - this one was planted last fall, went all winter, gave birth to a small cabbage in august, but seems to be saying it wants another go at it, i think its ready for a long winter and a behemoth cabbage sometime in July. The root must be big and healthy, I think i buried a turkey carcass beneath it last fall.

Why do developers get such a bad rap? is it just wrong cologne, too many pinstripes, tasseled loafers?, maybe their general dismissal of intelligence of the public? maybe the desire to spend as little to sell for as much as possible, i dont know, i mean these guys (rarely women) work really hard to produce new and exciting things to make as much money as possible (good if not fairly cold capitalism) we get a new place to drink,eat or even live in return. Maybe they just need a sense of humor and to know that they are part of society too, just sort of a creepy part, like Halloween or something, a great holiday! Lets just say this - Money third!, that could help, (a developer wont even know what that means) its just the lust for cash that causes the problem, keep it hidden, put it third, people first, quality second, you'll still do well and wont be so annoying. Rebuild your industries reputation!

Here is my rendering of the new oyster bar we are building at the ACE Hotel NY.
It doesnt really matter what it looks like though, people just go to these places for the food.

I dont know why they just dont open up in a drywall room with folding tables and chairs with some fluorescent lights. Maybe its just a ritual and it keeps me employed and busy, god only knows what would happen if that wasnt the case. There are alot of nice details, tile, copper, pipe and some big ass fish tanks.

i should have bought it. its a factory paradise, a mundane mud heaven of tar and mud, bacon and boots.

Set deep on a mud and sand spit in the atlantic, pressed up by the Wisconsin Glacier 10,000 years ago. Its not expected to last long, maybe 15,000 years or so.
15,000 glorious years of ALESCHRULE.
It was aquired with an arrangement of trading my pencil drawings for typed paper with a monetary value written on it. this currency's value is then written down on another small note of paper and delivered to a bank monthly for 20 years.

but about the Missed Eclipse series:
Eclipses are always happening, depending on where you are standing.
Thats always struck me as really dumb. to even name it an eclipse.
Just walk to where the shadow falls....magic! eclipse! the sun has disappeared!
Sure you would have to walk far but thats just a scale issue.
I suppose alot of people feel bad if they miss it or it falls off the side.
have to wait for 100 years till they maybe are in the right spot.
just go somewhere else.
its like standing behind a lightpole and recording that it blocked the view of a tree trunk down the block.
Document this, take notes, write about it, publish it.
To someone else, somewhere else it means nothing.
If you are convincing enough you can make them jealous that they missed something.
I recently found a musician in Vienna named Max Min who has a song called "missed eclipse".
I sent him a copy. I dont know why he named it that.
I bet he missed an eclipse one day, over slept, felt bad.

This is my favorite painting - i made it for my LA show in dec 03.
Its about the missing the most important aspects of everyday occurances. The power of missed things.
We miss the most important aspects of life while we putter around reading about them, or dreaming about them. The trouble is we cannot see them, hear them or feel them. We are in fact as sensitive as stones, maybe less.
Some New Age liars try to explain that they are "see-ers" and luckily for them we cannot "see" anything.
So they go about lieing about everthing. Meanwhile unseen astral blasts blow down onto vacant lots. witnessed by
squirrels and birds.

My secret spot. somewhere on the east coast.
water 56.....just booties. 2 guys out for a while in hoods, in booties and gloves and hoods! floundering. i surfed for 5 hours. mostly alone except for a whopper elephant seal trolling outside. i sometimes cant believe my good fortune, finding these waves so close to nyc.....
the day before was a choatic drowning machine and the next morning was 2 feet and fun. Actually this day was scary - the sets were big and currents strong. a fishing boat wreckage sits on the inside with cables and metal strewn about. easy to get tangled in, and some big rocks pepper the whole break. still a blessing in a cursed world. i caught a dozen screamers that will last a lifetime in my head - putting me to asleep everynight.

Ray is still going strong. On this day he spoke of his addiction to HORSE. Started after the war, or during..i couldnt understand. He broke it a few years ago during a year in prison. Arrested for possesion, and refusing to fink on the dealer.
He finished his high school diploma in jail and put his health in order. Save for drink he is a clean machine now.
